Annual Dues

In addition to the monthly membership fees, we collect annual dues to offset the cost of our affiliations with Aikido of Hawaii International (AHI), and the world-wide Aikikai organization with headquarters at the Hombu dojo in Tokyo, Japan.

Annual dues are modest and set each year by the AHI board. The following is subject to change.

  • $40 per student (non-black belts).
  • $55 for yudansha (black belts).

Test Fees

Testing and rank progression are optional. Current fees are below, subject to change.

  • Adult test fees for “kyu” ranks (non-black belts): $35 per test.
    • There are 5 kyu ranks for adults.
  • Youth ranks: $10 per test.
    • There are 5 kyu ranks for youths.
  • Yudansha (black belt) test fees are variable and include fees passed-through AHI by the Aikikai federation.
    • The AHI board takes into account monetary exchange rates when determining test fees.
    • A 1st degree black belt (shodan) may be in the neighborhood of a couple hundred dollars.
    • Higher ranks are more expensive, but also take many years to achieve, so the cost is spread over many years of practice.
